The "Fifth Child", Kaworu's 14. He likes to sing songs. He was sent to NERV from SEELE with no approval at all from NERV. Kaworu is the best Eva Pilot ever because his ability to set the synchronization ratio allows him to do so. He was Shinji's bestfriend and advised Shinji to learn more about himself. However, Kaworu is an Angel.
Like Ritsuko said, Kaeoru is the "Last" Messenger from God. He may also be the only Angel that looks human (discluding Rei who is a clone). He is incredibly strong for an Angel no matter what his size. His AT Field can even stop attacks from Evangelions. If he wanted to use his strongest AT Field, the armor plating for Terminal Dogma would be destroyed. He was supposed to destroy the humans forever with Eva Unit-02 but he feels compassion for the humans..something he never felt before. And thus, Kaworu was willing to sacrifice his life for humanity and was willing to die in Shinji's (Unit 01's) hand. However Shinji refused to destroy a friend, Kaworu told him there was no other way. Kaworu said death may finally free him. He had first mistaken Lilith for Adam and when he realized his mistake, he understood why the humans struggle to survive. Shinji squished him like a bug and the "last" angel was no more. For was the battle with Kaworu a win or a loss? The human race was saved but Shinji lost his only true friend.
