     Not really a rumour, but did you know that the creator of Evangelion was going through depression when he wrote it? It kinda explains the dark nature, doesn't it? :)

Rumor has it that many of the last names of the Eva cast of characters are taken from World War II Imperial Japanese Navy battleships.

The Secret of Eva-00

Eva-00 has gone beserk two times in the TV series. In the first beserk, Eva-00 wants to hit Gendou Ikari who is in the 2nd activation experiment laboratory. The second beserk also occurred in the same laboratory. But this time, the target is Rei Ayanami. The only person who hates Rei and Gendou Ikari is Naoko Akagi because Gendou Ikari lied to her and called her an old hag, and Rei is the clone of Yui Ikari. So it seems that Naoko Akagi's soul might have been absorbed into Eva-00 after she died and this is really the only reason to explain why Eva-00 went beserk.

The Secret of Eva-01

Eva-01 is the first Eva to be thrown into real battle. It was the second Eva built by NERV. Although it contributes a lot in its participation of many battles against the angels, it also behaves unexpectedly. On many occasions it has gone beserk, starting up without the presence of an entry plug and staying active after its activity time limit. Inside of Eva-01 lives the soul of Yui Ikari. It seems that the physical body of Eva-01 is made from Lilith. This is why in the case when the Spear of Longinus is lost, Eva-01 becomes the only substitute for Lilith as the tool of the Human Instrumentality Program.

The Secret of Eva-02

Eva-02 is the first Eva in the world to be built for real battles. Design and manufacture components were done by Japan. The final assemblage and activation experiment were done in Germany. It goes through a real battle when the 6th angel suddenly appears during delivery to Japan. Afterwards, it joins the defence of Tokyo-3 and assumes the responsibility of ambushing the angels. Inside Eva-02 lives the soul of Soryu Kyoko Zeppelin. Thats why Asuka who is mentally and phsycologically damaged feels that her mother is around to protect her.
 
NERV

NERV is a secret organization that is controlled by the UN. NERV's main purpose is to prevent a probable Second Impact from happening. NERV is also secretly in cooperation with SEELE (pronounced Say Lay). NERV is found throughout the world, but the main one in the series is NERV HQ in Tokyo-3. NERV HQ is located in a Geofront under Tokyo-3. The Main Central Control area is located in Central Dogma. And right next to the control center, is the Eva Cages! and below Central Dogma, lurks Terminal Dogma. It holds a lot of secrets. Terminal Dogma holds Lilith, The Mother of All Life, The LCL Storage, and......that's for you to find out.

NERV is run by the "Super Computer Magi" that uses cloned human brains as the CPU. The CPU are called "Melchior", "Balthasar", and "Caspar". NERV is just about worthless without the S.C. Magi. Come to think of it, NERV has been without the Magi a couple of times and when it does, NERV is practically powerless... Anyways, NERV is very advanced and the world has sort of put their hopes into the "Evangelions."
